A man from Barre, Vermont was killed in a two-vehicle crash west of Tucson Wednesday, a Department of Public Safety official said.

Fred Zullo, 57, was driving east in a silver 2004 Chrysler on State Route 86 when he crossed into oncoming westbound traffic and struck a white 1996 Ford pickup, said the official.

The crash occurred at 6:44 p.m. at milepost 158.

Zullo was pronounced dead at the scene. It was not known why he crossed over into the westbound lane, said the official.

The driver of the pickup, Mario Valenzuela, 50, of Tucson, did not require hospital treatment.

Zullo and Valenzuela had no passengers.
