A Walgreens employee was stabbed in the Catalina Foothills after he confronted a suspected shoplifter Friday night.
Shortly before 8:30 p.m., police responded to Walgreens at 4910 N. First Ave. to a report of a stabbing, said Sgt. Chris Widmer, a Tucson Police Department spokesman.
Officers found the employee with a stab wound to his leg, and he was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Widmer said.
He said from preliminary information it appears that a man attempted to shoplift from the store, and as he left an employee followed him outdoors. The two were involved in a fight, and the man stabbed the employee, said Widmer.
The man ran away. Police detained a possible suspect in the area, but the man's involvement had not been confirmed, Widmer said.
No further information was immediately available.
