A woman accused in a drug-related murder has pleaded guilty to negligent homicide.

Cassandra Evonne Salaz was originally charged with burglary and first-degree murder in the killing of Juan Barrios in March 2013.

Barrios, 41, was shot to death at his home near South Campbell Avenue and East Silverlake Road.

“This was over a drug debt,” defense attorney Michael Rosenbluth said at the Tuesday hearing before Pima County Superior Court Judge Teresa Godoy.

Salaz, 37, was not the person who pulled the trigger, Rosenbluth said.

Salaz is scheduled for sentencing on Sept. 29. She could face between four and eight years in prison.

Another defendant accused in the murder also pleaded guilty.

Leandro Antonio Perez pleaded guilty to two counts of possession of a deadly weapon by a prohibited possessor in two cases. He faces sentencing Aug. 29.
