Sal Baldenegro Jr. paints himself as a "strong progressive leader" in a new TV ad.

Baldenegro co-stars with downtown Tucson in the video, which includes scenes featuring A Mountain and the University of Arizona Main Gate.

The ad will air on channels 4, 9, 11 and 13, Baldenegro said on Facebook. He is running for State Senate against incumbent Democrat Olivia Cajero Bedford.

Text of the ad:

As a Tucsonan, born and raised, I love our town and our community.

I'm Sal Baldenegro, and I'm running for the State Senate because our community deserves a strong progressive leader who will defend public education, protect Medicaid, make us No. 1 in solar energy, help stop gun violence, and defend women's rights and gender equality.

I ask for your support in building a better Arizona and I ask for your vote in the upcoming Democratic primary election August 26.
