Gov. Jan Brewer won't be coming to a fundraiser event for Congressional candidate Gabriela Saucedo Mercer tonight.

Some pundits are saying this means Brewer is withdrawing support for Saucedo Mercer's campaign. However, Brewer's staff told Saucedo Mercer's staff that it's simple scheduling conflict and the governor will try to find another time to campaign for Saucedo Mercer.

Brewer has endorsed Saucedo Mercer for Congress.

Almost 300 people are RSVPd for tonight's event, at 5 p.m. at the Hotel Tucson City Center, 475 N. Granada Ave. Tickets were sold for $50-$100 each.

There are several other speakers in the line-up, including:

  • Congressman Trent Franks by video feed and former Congressman J.D. Hayworth,
  • State legislators Brenda Barton, Steve Smith and Al Melvin,
  • Radio personality Jerry Doyle
