Work crews will close East Sixth Street and North Tucson Boulevard Monday evening to upgrade the traffic signals at the intersection.

The traffic signal upgrade will take place between 9 p.m. Monday and 5 a.m. Tuesday, according to a City of Tucson news release.

Northbound traffic on Tucson Boulevard will be detoured at Seventh Street to either Norton Avenue or Forgeus Avenue.

Southbound traffic will be diverted at at Fifth Street to either Norton or Forgeus.

The work will not affect eastbound and westbound traffic on Sixth Street, but motorists will not be allowed to make right or left turns at the intersection.

They'll have to take Norton or Forgeus instead.

Tucson Police will allow local traffic and business access on Tucson Boulevard between Fifth and Sixth streets, and Sixth and Seventh streets.

The traffic signal upgrade is part of the city's five-year $100 million road recovery bond program.
