The challenges and setbacks that severely wounded soldiers face when they return from Afghanistan and Iraq.

Journalism in the digital age.

David Wood, one of the author in the Star Pavilion at the upcoming Tucson Festival of Books, will be on azstarnet.com Thursday at noon to discuss these and related current topics as well as answer your questions.

Advances in medical care and protective equipment mean fewer troops die on the battlefield. However, many wounded have “severe and complex” injuries and return to the U.S. with traumatic brain injuries.

These physical and emotional scars affect the wounded and their families — forever.

Wood, of the Huffington Post, won the Pulitzer for national reporting for his “Beyond the Battlefield,” series on the severely wounded of Iraq and Afghanistan, which was made into an ebook.

Thursday’s noon chat will be at live.azstarnet.com and also available on the Star’s mobile and iPad apps.

If you can’t attend the chat live, post questions now and come back later to read the transcript.

Coming Friday: Chat with Stephan Pastis, author of comic strip “Pearls Before Swine” at 1 p.m.
