Desert Sky School to hold open house

Families with children in kindergarten through fifth grade are invited to Desert Sky Community School's open house from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at 1350 N. Arcadia Ave.

Desert Sky is a tuition-free charter school inspired by Waldorf Education, which is described as emphasizing teaching appropriate to each child's developmental level.

The curriculum includes art, music, movement and Spanish and German twice a week starting in first grade.

Humane Society plans cat-adoption event

The Humane Society of Southern Arizona is hosting its "Home at Last" cat-adoption event from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.

It will be held at the Humane Society Companions for Life Center, 3465 E. Kleindale Road. The party, funded by PetSmart Charities, will include:

• Free cats and kittens for qualified adopters at all HSSA adoption centers.

• A wineglass with a kitten charm free to the first 60 adopters.

• A Home at Last starter pack with a litter box, cat litter, scoop and a toy for each adopter.

• A food truck roundup Saturday; free mini-doughnuts and cupcakes Sunday.

• Free kids' crafts, games and glitter tattoos.
