Two suspected robbers were arrested early Saturday morning, thanks to a cell-phone application, the Pima County Sheriff's Department said in a press release.

Sheriff's deputies responded to a reported robbery at about 12:30 a.m. at East Mexican Hat Drive and Coneflower Drive, near East Valencia Road and Benson Highway.

Two girls, ages 17 and 18, told deputies a man and a woman in a dark sport-utility vehicle approached them. The man forced them to lie on the ground at gunpoint before stealing a smartphone, wallet and the girls' IDs. Then they fled in the SUV .

After the robbery, one of the girls called her brother, who activated an application on the phone that allowed him to track its location. That led him to the El Camino Motel, 297 E. Benson Highway, where he saw the SUV and flagged down a South Tucson police officer.

At the motel, officers arrested Irene Garcia, 23, and Daniel Morales, 22, and booked them into Pima County jail on suspicion of armed robbery.

Officers said they found the smartphone, identification for one of the girls, a stolen semiautomatic Colt .45 handgun, marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
