An undocumented Honduran man who fell down a steep cliff near Baboquivari Peak, southwest of Three Points, was rescued Tuesday morning.

The man suffered a broken ankle and was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries, according to a U.S. Customs and Border Protection news release.

Border Patrol agents, an Air and Marine Operations Blackhawk helicopter and a Department of Public Safety helicopter were all used in the rescue.

On Sunday night, a Tohono O'odham Police Department officer contacted Border Patrol agents and said that a man in his custody said his traveling partner was left behind in the Baboquivari Mountains because of an injury.

Agents determined the location and rapelled into the area Monday from the Blackhawk and found the man about 400 feet below a cliff's edge, said authorities. The terrain and nightfall delayed hoisting the man out. The operation continued Tuesday with a DPS helicopter.
