The family of a Tucson girl who died earlier this year from a rare form of cancer will hold a blood drive in her honor on Sunday.

The event in memory of Ariana Economou will be from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 1145 E. Fort Lowell Road.

The American Red Cross said there is an urgent need for donors of all blood types.

The blood drive is being held to celebrate Ariana’s 14th birthday. It is being organized by her cousin, Tommi Mendoza.

The two cousins would often plan their summertime birthdays together and their families decided to use this event to thank everyone who donated blood for Ariana while she was sick.
