A Border Patrol agent shot and killed an "assaultive" man today in a remote area of the Baboquivari Mountains west of Three Points, the agency said in a news release.

The man was one of several in a group of people suspected to be in the country illegally. Three others are in custody and agents are searching the area for others, officials said.

The shooting, which occurred just before noon, is under investigation by the FBI, Custom and Border Protection's Office of Professional Responsibility and the Tohono O'odham Nation Police Department.

No other details were released, including any description of the man's "assaultive" behavior.
