Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials denied a stay of removal petition Monday for Rosa Robles Loreto, the woman taking sanctuary at Southside Presbyterian Church.
Robles Loreto and her family entered the church on Aug. 7, a day before she received an order of removal. Her attorneys had asked the government to temporarily postpone her deportation based on the Obama administration’s directive to exercise prosecutorial discretion when prioritizing immigration cases.
ICE has said Robles Loreto is not a priority for removal.
Daniel Neyoy Ruiz, who was in sanctuary at the church from May 13 to June 9, received a similar initial response from ICE. The agency eventually granted him a one-year stay after public pressure.
