Tucson community members have joined a national fast to highlight how deportations continue to separate families, organizers said.

"We fast in solidarity with all of those who are facing deportation proceedings, all of those who have been separated from their families and all of those who have been ripped apart from their communities. We fast to say not one more deportation", said Eleazar Castellanos, a 46-year-old community leader at the Southside Worker Center and one of eight people fasting Tuesday through Saturday.

For five days, participants will only drink liquids and eat honey.

The Tucson Protection Network Coalition "Not One More" fast is one of several nationwide including California, Oregon, New York and Florida.

The campaign is expected to end in Washington, D.C., later this month.
