A Catalina playground set ablaze last summer has risen from the ashes and will be dedicated Monday.

For the third time in four years, the playground equipment at Catalina Neighborhood Park, 16562 N. Oracle Road, was torched last July.

Pima County has installed new tan-and-blue play equipment for children between 5 and 12 years old.

"It's so important for kids to have a safe place to play outdoors. The children of Catalina will have a fun place to climb, explore and slide again," said Pima County Board of Supervisors member Ally Miller in a news release.

The new equipment was covered by insurance, and Pima County's Natural Resources, Parks and Recreation Department paid the $9,000 deductible.

Coronado K-8 School sixth-grader Savannah Williams helped pick out colors for the new equipment. After the fire, Williams gathered more than 100 signatures for a petition asking the county to speed up the rebuilding process. Williams was given a certificate from the county and will be at the dedication ceremony.

The cause of the fire has not been determined.

The playground will be dedicated Monday at 11:30 a.m.
