Above: Crews demolish a single-story portion of the The Westerner, 10 E. Broadway, originally opened in 1949 as a hotel, for redevelopment by COPE Community Services. The existing 55,024-square-foot, four-story building is expected to be renovated for offices and ground-floor commercial use, with 3,000 square feet for retail. A new 38,421-square-foot, six-story addition is expected to be added at 20 E. Broadway, providing 50 apartments and support facilities for low-income seniors and veterans.
