A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after police say he shot a man following an argument Sunday afternoon in a convenience store parking lot.

Police found a wounded man inside a car when they went to a house in 0-100 block of West King Road after reports of gunfire about 4:35 Sunday afternoon, Sgt. Maria Hawke said in a news release Monday.

The man was taken to a hospital where he died.

The shooting followed a confrontation between the unidentified man and another couple a few minutes earlier outside a convenience store on North Oracle Road, police say.

After the confrontation James Lee Derrington and his companion followed the other couple to King Road and Derrington fired at the man who was sitting in his car. Derrington was arrested later Sunday after a Pima County Sheriff’s Department deputy found him in a desert area near North La Cholla and West Ruthrauff roads.

The name of the shooting victim had not been made public Monday.
