An armed robbery suspect was taken into custody Wednesday after he led authorities on a vehicle chase through the southwest side.
Julio Christopher Martinez, 28, was arrested and booked into the Pima County jail on suspicion of armed robbery, unlawful flight from law enforcement, possession of a narcotic drug and possession of marijuana, according to a Pima County Sheriff's Department news release.
Sheriff's deputies received a report of an armed robbery at the Circle K at 4605 W. Valencia Road, where a robber threatened the clerk with a small handgun before fleeing with cash, alcohol and cigarettes. He was seen leaving the store in a Pontiac Sunfire.
Deputies searched the area and said they found the vehicle at the Circle K at 2840 W. Los Reales Road.
A deputy tried to stop the car, but the vehicle sped off and led authorities on a chase. The deputies set up road spikes near Camino de la Tierra and Avenida Isabel, which popped the driver's-side tires of the car.
The car turned westbound on Camino de Amigos before stopping at a dead end. The driver ran away before he was caught by deputies.
