Tucson police arrested a 22-year-old man suspected of trying to abduct a 15-year-old girl Sunday.

Alberto Martinez is facing attempted kidnapping and aggravated assault charges and was booked into the Pima County jail, said Sgt. Maria Hawke, a Tucson Police Department spokeswoman.

Police said the girl was walking in the 1400 block of North Wilmot Road at 2:20 p.m. when a man walking in the same direction grabbed her from behind, Hawke said.

The girl fought him off and broke free and called her mother from a nearby business. The mother then called 911.

Police responded to a report of a man causing a disturbance at a nearby apartment complex. The man matched the description the girl gave of the man who had grabbed her.

Meanwhile in Vail, Pima County Sheriff's Department deputies were looking for a man suspected in an attempted abduction of a 13-year-old girl.

The girl told authorities that a man in an SUV attempted to abduct her Sunday while she was walking to a friend’s house.

The incident was reported about 4 p.m., said Deputy Tom Peine, a Pima County Sheriff’s Department spokesman.

The girl was walking on East Cienega Creek Drive near Colossal Cave Road, Peine said.

The teen told deputies that a white SUV drove up to her, and the driver’s side door opened. The driver grabbed her, and she struggled and broke free and ran to her friend’s house, Peine said.

The assailant was described as a white man in his early 20s. He had dark, short brown hair. The man was clean shaven and was about 5 feet 9 inches tall with a thin build. He was wearing a dark-colored ring on his finger, Peine said.

The SUV was an older model vehicle with four doors and tinted windows, said Peine. It was last seen headed west on Cienega Creek Drive.

Anyone with information is asked to call 911 or 88-CRIME.
