A man who pleaded guilty to assaulting a police officer was sentenced to 14 years in prison Monday.

Steve Davis, 39, pleaded guilty in May to aggravated assault on a peace officer and assault with a deadly weapon in a November 2011 incident.

Davis was a suspect in an auto theft when a police officer confronted him. Davis fled from the officer on foot. The officer followed, also on foot.

The chase ultimately led back to the officer's patrol vehicle, which Davis tried to steal. Davis and the officer struggled, and Davis drove the patrol car into a wall in an attempt to shed the officer.
