A Sunnyside Unified School District assistant principal was arrested Friday on child sex charges, police said.
Adrian Noriega, 39, is facing five counts of sexual conduct with a minor and one count each of sexual abuse and molestation of a child, said Sgt. Diana Lopez, a Tucson Police Department spokeswoman.
Noriega, an assistant principal at Chaparral Middle School, was suspected of engaging in sexual conduct several years ago with a minor under the age of 14 at the time, Lopez said.
Police did not specify when the conduct began or how long it lasted.
Noriega was a teacher at Apollo Middle School when the conduct began, she said.
He was booked into Pima County jail.
Noriega started working for the district at Apollo Middle School in 1997, said district spokeswoman Monique Soria.
He also worked at Los Amigos Elementary School as a prevention specialist handling disciplinary duties before becoming an assistant principal at Desert View High School, Soria said.
He worked at Desert View for three years before becoming assistant principal at Chaparral in July 2009, she said.
Noriega has been placed on paid administrative leave, she said.
