A Tucson baby sitter convicted of negligent homicide for leaving a 10-month-old girl unattended in a bathtub was sentenced Monday to one year in the Pima County jail and four years' probation.

Zada Marie Davis was sentenced in Pima County Superior Court after her April conviction for leaving Winter Breeze Azure in a bathtub with the water running for at least 40 minutes while she was baby-sitting the child in June 2012.

"The gross negligence you displayed was astounding," Judge Christopher Browning told Davis at the sentencing hearing.

In addition to jail and probation, Davis is required to seek mental-health treatment, complete 400 hours of community service, earn a GED, complete parenting classes and not work as a caretaker for children or vulnerable adults.
