A hiker on Mount Lemmon has discovered a body believed to be that of a missing Oro Valley woman, authorities said.

The body was discovered about 3 p.m. Tuesday and fits the description of Janet Rennspies, the woman missing since last Wednesday, said Deputy Renee Carlson, a Pima County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman.

Homicide detectives went to the scene and took over the investigation. No further details were released.

Rennspies' family was notified Tuesday night of the discovery, authorities said. Rennspies, 51, was last seen by her family on the morning of Nov. 21, said Lt. Kara Riley of the Oro Valley Police Department.

When she did not return home that evening, Rennspies' family became concerned and called police. Police placed an attempt-to-locate alert in Pima and Pinal counties, Riley said.

Rennspies' family eventually found her vehicle on Mount Lemmon in a parking lot.

Search and rescue crews searched Mount Lemmon looking for Rennspies, but had called off the search earlier this week.
