A Nogales, Sonora, man was arrested Thursday on charges of trying to smuggle more than 5 pounds of methamphetamine into the United States.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers referred the 21-year-old Mexican national for an additional inspection of his truck at the Dennis DeConcini Port of Entry, the agency said in a news release.

After a CBP drug dog alerted to the presence of drugs within the bench seat, officers removed five packages of meth worth more than $77,700.

The drugs were hidden within a tubular back-support cylinder, the agency said.

The drugs and vehicle were seized. The man was turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
