2 caregivers arrested in abuse of woman, 93
Two adult-care workers have been arrested on suspicion of physically abusing an elderly woman, the Sheriff's Department said Wednesday.
Deputies were called by the staff at Asterion Acres assisted living facility in the 7000 block of North Asterion Lane, south of West Ina Road, on Monday about a case of elder abuse, said Deputy Jesus Banuelos, a Pima County sheriff's spokesman.
Deputies learned from the staff that two caregivers were believed to have been involved with physically abusing a 93-year-old woman.
Deputies saw injuries on the woman and arranged for her to be taken to a hospital.
Staff members said the two workers struck the woman with open hands and fists on numerous occasions. They also reported the two caregivers hitting her with a remote control and other objects, Banuelos said.
The deputies were told the two people were no longer working at the facility.
Sheriff's detectives and state officials continued the investigation and determined no other residents were harmed and that no other employees were involved.
On Tuesday, detectives arrested Annuhar Jesus Ruiz, 29. He was booked into the Pima County jail and is facing four counts of vulnerable-adult abuse.
On Wednesday, Elisa Moreno, 67, was arrested and booked into jail. She is facing five counts of vulnerable-adult abuse.
The charges are felonies.
