A drug-related explosion and fire at a townhome in a northwest side neighborhood sent one person to the hospital Monday afternoon.

The person received burns that were not life-threatening, said Capt. Barrett Baker, a Tucson Fire Department spokesman.

Firefighters were dispatched to the 3900 block of North Pomona Road at 1:14 p.m., Baker said.

About 20 minutes later, the department’s hazardous materials unit was sent to investigate the cause of the explosion.

The unit was supporting a Tucson Police Department investigation, Baker said. He would not elaborate.

Sgt. Chris Widmer, a Tucson Police Department spokesman, said it was a drug-related incident.

Widmer did not elaborate.
