An elderly couple was found slain in a midtown home on Tuesday, police said.

The man and woman were found dead inside their home on a cul-de-sac with "obvious signs of trauma" in what investigators are calling a double homicide, a police official said.

At about 4:15 p.m., a family member called police to the home in the 4600 block of East North Street near the intersection of East Grant and North Swan roads.

"The officers were advised that the residents were inside of the house, and both of them appeared to be seriously injured," Sgt. Maria Hawke, spokeswoman for the Tucson Police Department, said in a news release.

Officers checked on the couple, both in their mid-80s, and found them dead, Hawke said.

Homicide detectives are investigating.

The names of the man and woman were not released pending notification of other relatives.

Police are trying to find anyone who might have had contact with the couple, and ask anyone with information about them to call 911 or 88-CRIME.
