The U.S. Marshals Office has confirmed that former Altar Valley School District coach Todd Hezlitt believed to be on the run with a Tucson teen is in custody in Mexico.
Mexican authorities took Hezlitt into custody and the U.S. Marshals Office is working to bring him from Mazatlan back to the U.S., Christopher DeRosa, a spokesman for the marshals office said.
In April, Hezlitt was arrrested on suspicion of two counts of sexual conduct with a minor. The Pima County Sheriff’s Department issued a warrant for Hezlitt’s arrest in June, after he was seen at a graduation with the teen girl he was accused of being involved with, violating his orders of conditions of release.
The girl was reported as a runaway on May 31 and authorities believed the pair were together.
Family of the girl has posted through social media that she is safe.
