A free eight-week program this summer offered by the Pima County Attorneys Office offers a chance for the public to learn about the criminal-justice system and law enforcement.

Participants in the Citizens Prosecution Academy will learn about topics including crime-scene investigations, cold-case homicides, narcotics, domestic violence, Internet crimes against children, witness protection and the judicial system from prosecutors and speakers from the Tucson Police Department Crime Laboratory.

Participants will also get to tour the crime lab, the Pima County jail, the juvenile detention center and the state prison.

Classes are held once a week May 14 through June 27 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the Westside Police Service Center, 1310 W. Miracle Mile. Applications for the program are being accepted until April 29 at www.pcao.pima.gov/prosecutionacademyform.aspx
