Deputies and Air Force rescue teams were called to aid a paraglider who crashed near the Santa Rita Mountains Friday night, authorities said.

The 54-year-old man was flying close to the ground when he apparently clipped a rock and crashed, said Deputy Jesus Bañuelos of the Pima County Sheriff's Department. The victim suffered a broken wrist and femur, Bañuelos said.

Another paraglider managed to land safely nearby, Bañuelos said.

The accident happened about 7:25 p.m. Friday near Alazurra Peak in the Santa Rita Mountains. Sheriff's deputies from the Green Valley district sent a search-and- rescue unit, Bañuelos said. A U.S. Air Force Para Rescue unit also assisted.

The teams hoisted both paragliders out of the area.
