1 suspect in series of burglaries arrested

Deputies have arrested one man in a string of burglaries, but they are still searching for his accomplice.

Charles Painter Spear, 38, who wears a surgeon's-style mask to cover a severe facial disfigurement, was arrested Friday night, said Deputy Tom Peine, spokesman for the Pima County Sheriff's Department.

Spear and another man have burglarized several businesses in Marana, Oro Valley and Tucson since December, Peine said. After throwing a rock through a front glass door, they would rummage through desks and drawers, taking cash and valuables.

Spear's accomplice, who has not been identified, often vaults over desks, counters and low, swinging doors rather than going around or through them, Peine said.

Anyone with information about the burglaries or the suspects should call 911 or 88-CRIME.
