A pedestrian died at a hospital after he was struck in a hit-and-run Friday night on South Mission Road near West 36th Street.

The man was struck shortly after 7 p.m. in the 2800 block of South Mission Road by a light-colored Chevrolet Trailblazer, said Sgt. Chris Widmer, a Tucson Police Department spokesman.

Initial reports were that the vehicle possibly is silver, Widmer said.

The driver fled the scene traveling south on Mission Road, Widmer said.

The vehicle has significant front end damage, he said.

Southbound Mission at 36th Street will be closed for several hours. Northbound lanes on Mission remain open, Widmer said.

Anyone with information is asked to call 911 immediately, said Widmer.
