A Tucson man received a 12-year prison sentence Monday for stabbing to death his roommate in 2011.

Louie James Childs, 26, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the death of Craig Alcorta, 26, who died Dec. 3, 2011.

Childs' attorney, Leo M. Masursky, said his client had been abusing crystal meth at the time of the crime but has worked to rehabilitate himself while in jail.

"I'm letting this all be a valuable lesson to me," Childs told Judge Christopher Browning at the sentencing hearing.

Masursky noted Childs did not have a criminal history at the time of the killing.
