A Marana police officer was arrested early Saturday morning on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.

Irasema Teran, 31, was pulled over near North Shannon and West Magee roads by an Oro Valley officer working as part of the Southern Arizona DUI Task Force for a civil traffic violation, said Lt. John Teachout, a spokesman for the Oro Valley Police Department.

During the stop the officer found that she was driving with a suspended license and was believed to have been drinking, Teachout said.

Teran was booked into Pima County Jail.

Results from a blood test performed on Teran are expected to be returned in 4-6 weeks, Teachout said. He could not say whether any other DUI tests were given to Teran.

Teran, a patrol officer who's been with the department since September 2007, was placed on paid administrative leave immediately following the stop, said Sgt. Tim Brunenkant, a spokesman for the Marana Police Department.

Brunenkant could not say how long Teran's license had been suspended or if the department knew about the suspension.
