Federal agents seized more than 2,300 pounds of marijuana and arrested three suspects Wednesday during a surveillance operation in Nogales.

Authorities stopped a white Dodge Cargo van for a traffic violation, and a consensual search of the vehicle led officers to 12 boxes containing more than 932 pounds of marijuana, according to a U.S. Immigration and Customs news release.

The traffic stop took place in an area known for contraband smuggling, states the release.

Two people were arrested, and during questioning the suspect's gave information that led authorities to a warehouse where 1,370 pounds of marijuana was seized and a third suspect was arrested, according to the release.

Drug trafficking charges are pending against the three suspects as the investigation continues, states the release.

In addition to federal agents, Santa Cruz County High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas Investigative Task Force and the state Department of Public Safety took part in the operation.
