A Tucson man who apparently lost control of his motorcycle, was found dead Thursday morning near a south-side road.

At about 1:35 a.m. a Tucson police officer was driving in the area of South Alvernon Way and East Technical Drive when he saw a motorcycle lying on the side of the road near the intersection. The officer found the body of 25-year-old Nicholas J. Vasquez some distance away from the motorcycle, Sgt. Maria Hawke, spokeswoman for the Tucson Police Department, said in a news release.

Detectives determined Vasquez had been riding his yellow 2003 Honda southbound on South Alvernon Way at a high rate of speed.

"For unknown reasons, he lost control of the motorcycle and collided with the guardrail on the right side of the roadway," Hawke said.

Vasquez was wearing a helmet.
