The victim in a Thursday night drive-by shooting in Oro Valley has died and a suspect has been arrested, police said.

Joshua Stephen Switalski, 22, was shot just before 8 p.m. while driving on North Oracle Road, Lt. Kara Riley, spokeswoman for the Oro Valley Police Department, said in a news release. He was pronounced dead at a hospital.

"Detectives interviewed a number of witnesses who reported that two vehicles traveling northbound along Oracle Road appeared to be engaged in some type of verbal altercation," Riley said. "The confrontation involved the male driver of a pickup truck and Mr. Switalski, who was driving a sedan. The drivers each had a passenger in their vehicle."

Near First Avenue, the driver of the truck shot at the sedan before speeding away, Riley said. After Switalski was shot, his car came to a stop in the emergency lane of Oracle Road.

Oro Valley police officers tracked the pickup to Hawser Street in Catalina and arrested David Arnoldo Mota, 21. He was booked into the Pima County jail and faces one count of first-degree murder and one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

The investigation is ongoing and OVPD is asking anyone who witnessed the confrontation or shooting to 911, 88-CRIME or 229-4900.
