One of two Navy SEALs involved in a parachuting accident near Marana on Thursday has died.
The other is in stable condition at a hospital, a representative from Naval Special Warfare Command said.
The SEALs, from an East Coast unit, were at a military parachute testing and training facility at Pinal Airpark northwest of Tucson when the accident occurred at about 12:30 p.m. The Department of Defense said they collided in mid-air.
The SEALs were "participating in routine military free-fall training," a spokesman for the command said.
The Department of Defense said a senior chief was taken to University of Arizona Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
The other SEAL is a petty officer first class, military officials said Friday.
Names of the SEALs have not yet been released.
