Border officers at the Port of Nogales arrested an 18-year-old Mexican national on Monday after they found 4½ pounds of methamphetamine inside an accordion he was carrying, officials said.

Eloy Renteria-Ortiz was crossing at the Morley Gate when he was stopped and searched by Customs and Border Protection agents, who found the drugs wrapped in black tape and stashed in the center of the accordion, according to a news release from CBP. The drugs are worth about $14,000.

Renteria-Ortiz was turned over to Immigration and Custom Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations. The accordian and drugs were seized.

In an unrelated bust, a 30-year-old woman traveling with her young daughter was arrested Monday for attempting to smuggle more than 310 pounds of marijuana through the Port of Douglas, CBP said in a news release.

Alma Angelina Martinez-Mendoza of Sonora, Mexico, was sent to a secondary search after port officers noticed the fuel tank of her 1995 Chevrolet Blazer had been tampered with.

Agents found 260 packages of marijuana hidden throughout the vehicle. The drugs are worth more than $155,000. Martinez-Mendoza was turned over to ICE's Homeland Security Investigations. The woman's daughter was released to her father.
