The resident of a midtown home escaped unharmed from a blaze early Saturday morning, but one of two dogs living at the home wasn't as lucky.

Firefighters arrived at the home in the 100 block of North Camino del Norte near East Broadway and North Alvernon Way, just after midnight and found the back porch and kitchen area fully engulfed in flames, Tucson Fire Department spokesman Capt. Barrett Baker said.

TFD units arrived four minutes after being dispatched. They were able to rescue one dog, but a second died in the fire.

It took 10 units and 23 firefighters 10 minutes to control the fire. Because the house sustained heavy damage, a building safety inspector was called in to determine the stability of the structure. An estimate of the damage is undetermined.

The investigation is ongoing.
