A man who died after being struck by a truck on Aug. 3 in midtown was identified as Gilbert Marietta.

Marietta, 47, was struck shortly after 10 p.m. at East Grant Road and North Avenida El Capitan, Sgt. Chris Widmer, a Tucson Police Department spokesman, said Tuesday.

The neighborhood is near North First Avenue.

Detectives from the traffic investigations unit found out that a 1995 Toyota Tacoma was traveling east on Grant and struck Marietta, Widmer said.

Marietta was not in a crosswalk and was wearing dark clothing, Widmer said.

The driver of the truck was traveling at about the posted speed limit, Widmer said.

Since January, there have been 25 fatalities in the city, compared with 20 during the same period last year, police records show.
