A Pima County jail officer was arrested Friday on suspicion of having sexual contact with female inmates, the department said.

Corrections Officer Jorge Renteria-Urias was booked into the jail on nine felony charges of unlawful sexual conduct in a correctional facility, the Sheriff’s Department said in a news release.

The department said it began an investigation Wednesday after receiving information about alleged inappropriate contact between a corrections officer and female inmates.

Renteria-Urias is on unpaid leave from his job pending his termination, the agency said.

No other information was released Friday.
