A 14-year-old freshman at Santa Rita High School was arrested on suspicion of making a hoax gun threat Thursday, Tucson police say.

The boy borrowed a cell phone from a classmate to call 911 about 9.am. claiming someone had three guns on the campus, 3951 S. Pantano Rd., police said in a news release.

Officers were able to trace the call to a specific cellphone on campus. After finding the phone and questioning a group of students, the 14-year-old was arrested on suspicion of making a false emergency report and disrupting an educational facility. Both are misdemeanors.

The Star is not naming the boy because the allegations are low-level crimes.

On Tuesday the school was in lockdown for hours after a neighbor reported seeing someone with a gun near the campus. No gunman was found.
