Tucson police found a woman shot and a man pistol-whipped Monday at a Howard Johnson hotel, just off Interstate 10 south of downtown, police said.
Police went to the Howard Johnson, 1010 S. Freeway, after 911 callers reported a shooting at 2:36 p.m., said Sgt. Chris Widmer, a Tucson Police Department spokesman.
Officers found a woman who was shot in the leg, and a man who had been pistol-whipped, Widmer said. Both were taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries, he said.
An SUV with four people involved in the incident was spotted by a patrol officer near South Kino Parkway and East Silverlake Road, Widmer said.
As the officer tried to pull the vehicle over, the SUV stopped and four people climbed out and ran, said Widmer.
Two were caught by police, including one who tried to carjack a motorist in the 1400 block of E. 28th St., Widmer said. No one was injured in the carjacking attempt, he said.
Police are searching for two others — a man and a woman — in the Kino Parkway and Silverlake area.
The motive for the shooting and assault is not yet known. Investigators will seek a search warrant for the hotel room, Widmer said.
