A 22-year-old convenience store clerk was hospitalized in critical condition after being found early Friday with life-threatening injuries from being stabbed.

Tucson police said a customer found the wounded clerk about 1 a.m. at the AM/PM at 7601 E. Tanque Verde Road and called 911.

Sgt. Chris Widmer said detectives determined that the attacker entered the store and was involved in a short confrontation with the clerk before stabbing him with an unknown object.

The stabber was described as a male in his early 20s, about 5 feet 8 inches tall with a thin build. He was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, dark jeans and a carrying a dark-colored backpack, Widmer reported.
