A Tucson man was arrested Friday after deputies found 15 pounds of marijuana in a secret compartment during a traffic stop.

Alejandro Ortiz, 22, was driving to Phoenix with his wife and 12-day-old baby when he was pulled over on Interstate 10 near Casa Grande by deputies from the Pinal County Sheriff's Office. Deputies pulled him over because the 2007 Cadillac Escalade had "excessively dark side-window tint" and was not insured, Tamra Ingersoll, a Sheriff's Office spokeswoman, said in a news release.

"The driver was acting nervous and raised the deputy's suspicions," she said. "The deputy returned to his vehicle and deployed his K-9 partner. The dog immediately alerted on a portion of the SUV."

A search turned up a secret compartment inside the SUV that contained the marijuana, which had a street value of nearly $10,000, Ingersoll said.

The SUV was seized and Ortiz was booked into the Pinal County jail. He faces charges of possession and transportation of marijuana.

His wife was released at the scene with their baby because deputies could not tie her to the marijuana, Ingersoll said.

"The driver was acting nervous and raised the deputy's suspicions."
