A security guard at the Tucson Mall was hurt during a scuffle with a male who allegedly shoplifted from Macy's department store, police said.

Tucson police were dispatched shortly after 2 p.m. to a shoplifting call at the mall in which a male was detained in connection with a shoplifting incident, said Sgt. Chris Widmer, a Tucson Police Department spokesman.

The mall is at 4500 N. Oracle Road, north of West Wetmore Road.

The security guard suffered a knee injury during a scuffle after he confronted a male who was leaving the store, Widmer said.

The guard fell to the ground and was transported to a hospital, said Widmer.

Robbery detectives will take over the investigation, since an injury resulted from the incident, Widmer said.

The suspect remained in custody, he said.
