The driver of an SUV involved in a fatal crash Saturday morning has been arrested.

Robert S. Ballesteros, Jr., 41, was booked in to the Pima County Jail Sunday on suspicion of second degree murder, aggravated assault, aggravated DUI and three counts of criminal damage.

Mandie Scammel, 22 was pronounced dead at the scene after the crash at South La Cholla and West San Marcos boulevards about 2:45 a.m., a Tucson Police Department news release said.

Ballesteros and his passenger were also injured. He was arrested after his release from the hospital.

According to police, Ballesteros was heading southbound on La Cholla when he came to San Marcos and was making a left turn when he crashed into Scammel’s vehicle.
