A man convicted of trying to kill his estranged wife was sentenced to more than a decade in prison on Monday.

Pima County Superior Court Judge Kenneth Lee sentenced Jose Raul Juarez-Orci to 10½ years in prison for attempted second-degree murder, aggravated assault and violating an order of protection.

A jury in September found Juarez-Orci guilty of attempting to kill his wife by stabbing and slashing her with a knife.

In testimony during the trial, the defendant’s wife, whom the Star did not identify, said she and her husband had separated but he continued to call and follow her.

The day Juarez-Orci attacked his wife, he kicked in the door to their home and violently beat her, smashing her against a wall and beating her head against the floor, she testified.
