Two killed in crash on River near Craycroft

Two men were killed in a crash Sunday morning on Tucson's north side.

Gabriel Gallegos, 18, was driving a Chevy Corvette westbound around 2:30 a.m. in the 5000 block of East River Road, near North Crayroft Road, when he lost control of the car, crossed the center line and hit a Honda Civic traveling eastbound, Deputy Jesus Bañuelos, a Pima County Sheriff's Department spokesman, said in a news release.

The cars spun off the road, and Gallegos was thrown from the vehicle. The passenger in the Corvette, 20-year-old Olajuwon Gilliam, was trapped in the car, the release said. Both men were pronounced dead at the scene. Evidence indicates Gallegos was driving at a high speed, the release said.

A man and woman in the Civic were taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, the release said.
